Somers Library is Now a Pick-Up Location for Field Goods

Somers Library is now a pick-up location for Field Goods, a local produce subscription delivery service. Each week, you will receive 5-8 different types of fruits and vegetables.  Field Goods chooses the items delivered and purchases them directly from over 60 different Hudson Valley farms. A subscription costs $20, $25, or $30 a week depending on which size bag you choose. All of the produce is non-GMO, much is organic, and all is grown by small farms.  Their newsletter gives you information about what you’re eating and how to eat it. Field Goods delivers 150+ varieties of fruits and vegetables, and more than a dozen types of local cheese and artisan bread, all grown by local small farms or local producers. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Somers Friends Group and the Somers Library Foundation.  To sign up & learn more, go to Field-goods.com

The Battle of the Books 2015 is a countywide competition of young adults from all participating Westchester County public libraries. There are two sections of Battle of the Books Competition – one for kids in grades 4-6 and one for grades 6-9. Teams will compete by answering trivia questions based on 5 different books.  Last year, The Somers Library was proud to send a wonderful group of students from both age groups and the library could not have been prouder of there dedication and success!
Battle of the Books 2014 Somers Library Teams

Looking forward, the Somers Library will be taking 2 teams – one from each age group to the Battle of the Books 2015!  These teams will be representing the Somers Library and making a commitment to its success.  Each Participant must read all 5 books in their age group, try to attend the summer meetings, and meet every week to practice once the school year begins. And, of course, team members must be able to make the competition on Saturday, October 17th at the Ossining High School.

Besides getting teams of students for our two teams, the Somers Library is required to send at least 5 adult volunteers (parents, friends, siblings, etc.) to help out at the championship battle.  We also need help reading the required books and making up practice questions for our teams.  If you are available to help in any way, please call the library (232-5717).

Here is a list of the great books chosen for this year’s competition:
Grades 4-6:
Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea
