The Somers Library Board of Trustees has selected Andrew Farber as the new director for the Somers Public Library.
Currently the head of Young Adult Services at the Greenburgh
Public Library, Farber will assume his new role on June 1,
2015. “The mission of the Somers Library is to provide
residents of all ages with informational, recreational and
cultural resources and programs in a welcoming atmosphere
conduci
ve to learning and
enjoyment,”said Jim Hasl, president of the Somers Library Board
of Trustees. “Andrew understands this mission well and
possesses the experience, talent and character to lead our
library into the future.” At Greenburgh, Farber expanded the
library’s community outreach, creating new partnerships with local
businesses and schools. He has considerable experience working
with digital technologies to enhance library services as he served
as the technical support specialist for Greenburgh earlier in
his career. “I am both honored and thrilled to have been
named the new director of the Somers Library. I look forward
to working with the staff and the board to continue the
tradition of excellence that the library is known for and to
expand the services the library offers to our community,”
Farber said. Farber sits on the Westchester Library System
Director’s Association Youth Services Advisory Committee
charged with providing professional development for young adult
librarians, and the WLS Technology Committee responsible for
evaluating new technologies to implement across county libraries. Farber was also a member of the team that created the first
countywide Battle of the Books competition, a book-based trivia
tournament for Westchester youth, grades 4-9. After earning his
bachelor’s degree in Information Science from the State
University at Oswego, Farber received his master’s degree in
Library Science from City University at Queens. Farber is current
enrolled in the New York Library Association Leadership and
Management Program and will complete that program in June.
Farber takes over for library director Pat Miller who retired
in early March after 12 years of service with the Somers Library.
